“From Friday, March 20th, to Sunday, March 22nd, the girls from the CICES /Center for information, consultation, education and support/ “Don Bosko” participated in the winter camp in the town of Kazanlak. There were 9 girls in total, aged between 11 and 14 years old.
During the weekend, the girls had the opportunity to share moments of relaxation and play with the volunteers and the team of the Center, as well as moments of sharing and reflection. From the topic related to Turkey, the girls learned new things about the neighboring country – more about its music, food, geography and history. They were able to try some typical Turkish dishes and enjoy improvised dramatizations of famous Turkish TV series.
In addition to studying Turkey, another valuable topic for the development of the girls was also discussed during the entire camp. This is the “first spring”, which this year is celebrated on Sunday, March 22nd. In Roma culture, this event is celebrated with family outings in the parks. The Roma community celebrates the beginning of spring, the end of the harsh winter and the awakening of life in nature. This is an event that reminds us that after the cold comes warmth, that after difficulties – comes the renewal of life, a time of beauty, more joy and hope for new growth.

The main organizer of the camp, in a team with the leaders of the girls’ meetings at the CIKOP “Don Bosco” – Anna Kisyova, Katerina Stancheva and Markos Dalla Sia and the team of the animators Hrisi Mitkova, Reveka Mitkova and Monika Kissyova, was the long-term volunteer from the Czech Republic Marie Anna Kapitsova. She works in Stara Zagora on the project “Education – the key to a better future”, 2024-1-BG01-ESC51-VTJ-000223373, co-financed by the EU program “European Solidarity Corps”
