International Mother Language Day, 21.02.2020

On February 21st for the second year in a row, together with the Mission Wings Foundation, the Euro-training Association and the VIVO Center, we celebrated the International mother language day. We gathered people from 10 different countries – Argentina, Bulgaria, Guatemala, Iraq, Iran, Poland, Turkey, USA, Somalia, Czech Republic.
We learned interesting facts about languages around the world, we heard and sang hymns to all the countries present, we solved a logical problem, we learned the meaning of some strange and outdated Bulgarian words, we played games.
We also had a special surprise for our volunteer Jana, who had a birthday on the same date. She received gifts as well as a “happy birthday”, sung in all ten languages. Jana works in Stara Zagora at our Oratorio Center for Information, Counsultation, Education and Support with Roma children and young people on the project “Education – the key to a better future”, 2019-2-BG01-ESC11-062662, co-financed by the EU’s European Solidarity Corps program.
The last part of the holiday was a real culinary adventure – everyone had made some typical dish from their kitchen, some had brought more. As the saying goes: we had a nice meal.
It is a joy for us that we are able to turn the holiday into a tradition that is a joyful experience for the people for whom Stara Zagora became a second home.
